Nacht Wacht Restaurant offers culinary delights true to the Overberg – fused with food inspiration gleaned from cuisines across the world. The restaurant is housed in the old milking parlour on the historic Nacht Wacht Farm. Diners enjoy sweeping views of the Overberg landscape, including Nacht Wacht’s prizewinning Sussex bulls.

Owner and chef Melanie Albertyn uses her global travels to inspire her ever-transforming menu: from French cuisines, to Spanish tapas, and all that is exotic. Still, her food stays true to the Overberg, and to its seasons. Most of her salads come straight out of her own vegetable and herb garden. The meat is from the trusted butcher, down the road in Bredasdorp. And the line fish freshly caught at the Struisbaai Harbour.

Nacht Wacht Restaurant’s signature dish is the Rack of Lamb with balsamic, cranberry and fig reduction, served with a garlic and sweet potato mash. Other favourites are the Springbok Carpaccio and the Mussel Soup. Melanie’s baked cheesecake is also a must – frequently labeled one of the best in the world. And you can top off your meal with Italy’s full-flavoured Lavazza coffee.

A friend once told me: ‘with this view you can get away with serving only bread and water and people will come back for more!’ says Melanie.

“Melanie says: “I love cooking with butter, and will add a dash of lemon wherever I can. I’ll also add to the menu what I feel like on the day, like a vegetable risotto. Of course I happily make my husband’s favourite dish, the smoked pork neck with traditional sweet mustard sauce.”
